SPANISH ROYALS WELCOME A BABY GIRL

Infanta Cristina has given birth to a girl 5/VI/2005 Princess Cristina, the second daughter of Spain’s King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, has given birth to a girl, her fourth child and the royal couple’s sixth grandchild, the Royal Palace said. Irene was born Sunday afternoon in Barcelona, weighed in at a healthy 8.1 pounds and measured nearly 20 inches. The 39-year-old princess is married to former professional handball player and current vice president of the Spanish Olympic Committee Inaki Urdangarin. The couple live in Barcelona with their three sons, Juan Valentin, Pablo Nicolas and Miguel. Both mother and child were said to be well. Cristina’s brother and Juan Carlos’ youngest child, Crown Prince Felipe and his wife Letizia are expecting their first child in November. The eldest sister, Princess Elena, is married to banker Jaime de Marichalar and has a son and a daughter.
